Applications

The Trustees of the Alex Lindsay Memorial Award wish to advise that applications for assistance from this fund are now being accepted. Applicants are required to submit a C.V. and tape or CD performance including orchestral excerpts by September 30. At this date, applicants must be under 25 years of age.

The intention of the Alex Lindsay Memorial Award is to provide financial assistance to young students and performers on an orchestral instrument whose aim it is to take up a career in symphonic music.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Award applicants must be:

  1. under 25 years of age and permanently resident in New Zealand, although this does not exclude those at present studying overseas;
  2. a native-born New Zealander or resident in New Zealand for at least 10 years;
  3. a performer on an orchestral instrument but not a member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

The applicant should supply:

  1. A tape or CD of the applicant's performance made under appropriate supervision. This should include two contrasting movements (approx. 10 minutes playing), and orchestral excerpts ( provided on application)
  2. Two references from teachers, professors or other persons in authority
  3. A brief exposition of the applicant's musical background, intentions and aspirations
  4. Date of birth
  5. Residential address and/or postal address

The Alex Lindsay Memorial Award operates on interest from invested funds, and Awards are made whenever sufficient funds become available. The Award may be divided if there is more than one successful applicant. It is hoped that the recipients will, without being in any way bound, consider New Zealand their musical homeland, in the spirit of the musician whose name this Award commemorates, and that ultimately many will become members of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
